Also known as Aeropuerto de Fuerteventura, Fuerteventura Airport (FUE) serves as the primary international gateway to the island of Fuerteventura, the second largest of Spain's Canary Islands. The airport is located five kilometers south of Puerto del Rosario and handles both tourist and business traffic to the island.
FUE layout – terminals and gates
Fuerteventura Airport features a single passenger terminal that manages both domestic and international flights. On the ground floor you find the check-in area with numerous check-in counters and the arrivals hall which includes baggage claim and customs facilities.
The departures area at the airport is found on the first floor and is divided into Schengen and non-Schengen sections, facilitating the boarding of flights to various destinations. The terminal has a total of 24 gates.
Security routine at the airport
Travelers arriving at Fuerteventura Airport from countries within the Schengen Area generally bypass further passport control or security checks, as these flights are considered domestic within the Schengen zone.
However, passengers arriving from non-Schengen countries must go through passport control upon entering Spain. During this process, travelers may be asked brief questions regarding their purpose of visit and are required to present travel documents, such as a passport and, if applicable, a visa.
